GUESTS Bishop Eben Nhiwatiwa of the Zimbabwe Area preached at the opening worship service and was the speaker for the youth banquet. Prior to his election as bishop in 2004, Nhiwatiwa served 12 years on the faculty of Africa University in Mutare, Zimbabwe, and has been involved with the university since its inception. He earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in the U.S. His area includes the Zimbabwe East and Zimbabwe West conferences.
Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton of the Pittsburgh Area preached at morning worship. Bickerton was elected bishop in 2004 after more than 20 years as a pastor and district superintendent in the West Virginia Conference. He earned his bachelor's degree at West Virginia Wesleyan College and attended seminary at Duke Divinity School. Bickerton received his doctor of ministry degree from United Theological School in 1994.
Dr. Marcia McFee led worship throughout the conference. McFee is an author, worship designer and leader, professor, preacher and artist. Her engaging and interactive style has been called “refreshing,” “inspiring,” and “unforgettable.” McFee combines her background and experience in professional theater, music, and dance with a variety of worship and preaching styles in order to bring a fresh experience of the Gospel to each worship setting. She has provided worship design and leadership at numerous national and regional gatherings, including General Conference and the 2004 Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference.
MISSION OFFERING Gifts to the Annual Conference Mission Offering will support the Chabadza Covenant, a partnership of the Mississippi Conference and Zimbabwe Area. The offering, received at opening worship June 11, totalled $119,136 as of June 12. Gifts continue to come in.
