Nona Vee Tanner Barton

Nona Vee Tanner Barton, 76, of the Harleston community in Jackson County died July 2, 2009.

Services were held for July 5 at Tanners Chapel United Methodist Church in Harleston. Internment followed in Tanners' Cemetery in Harleston. Pallbearers were Rusty Barton, Josh Barton, Terry Freeman, Randall Koffron, Rich Humphreys, Landry Weston and Tim Peterson. The Rev. Harrell Moore officiated. George County Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mrs. Barton was a 1951 graduate of Moss Point High School and valedictorian of her class. As a lifelong member of Tanners Chapel UMC in Jackson County, she served as church Treasurer and a Sunday school teacher. She was an active member of Marching for Jesus Ministries.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mose and Addie Tanner and two brothers, Otis Lemore "Buster" Tanner and Aaron Owen "Gee" Tanner.

Survivors include: sons, Bobby D. Barton of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Glenn D. Barton of Harleston; daughters, June M. Groome of Moss Point and Donna J. Barton of Theodore, Ala.; and eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Donations may be made to Nona Yee Barton Memorial Fund at Century Bank or Tanners Chapel U MC in Harleston.
