Cedar Lake UMC celebrates marriage

These couples were recognized for having been married over 50 years.

Written: 9/23/2009

Cedar Lake United Methodist Church in north Biloxi celebrated marriage Aug. 30 as it recognized 12 couples in the church who have been married for at least 50 years.

Pastor Garry Ruff said, “Marriage is unfortunately under attack from all sides in our culture today. Therefore, we think that it was important to recognize and celebrate these successful marriages as examples for the rest of us to emulate in our own relationships.”

Music for the service emphasized the wedding theme, highlighted by a solo performance of You’re My Best Friend by Chris Ladner. Following the sermon, “The Sanctity of Marriage,” Ruff officiated at a short ceremony in which five of the couples reaffirmed their marriage vows. A wedding reception featuring hors d’oeuvres, cake and punch followed the service in the fellowship hall.

Those honored include Romie and Mildred Krohn, Waldo and Betty Hartel, Terrell and Pat Richardson, Bill and Katherine Husley, Bill and Ann Balius; (back row) Bobby and Caroline Touchstone, Mike and Ann Scarborough, Fred and Dorothy Mitchell, Ray and Glenna Phillips, and W.M. and Edna Krohn. Unable to attend were Bill and Nita Rushing and James and Helen Rushing.
